US DOT Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse Law
The US Department of Transportation is rolling out a new Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse Law which takes effect on January 6, 2020.
Under this law, a database to track commercial driver’s license holders who have tested positive for prohibited drug or alcohol use OR who have refused to take a required test. The database is known as the Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse.
In short, employees will be required to populate the database & query the Clearinghouse for information on new hire applicants.
How does the law affect employers?
It is recommended that you register for the Clearinghouse by the end of this year.
