Weekend GetawaysOne of the great things about living in eastern Pennsylvania is our proximity to…everything! If you’re like us, you’re always looking to get away but don’t always have the PTO days to fly down to Florida for a little sun and surf, or out to Colorado for a great powder day. Here are a few ideas that require less than 4 hours of travel time, that you can enjoy for a quick weekend.

Nantucket

I know what you’re thinking; this is a summer vacation spot. If you’re looking for some quality time with family or friends, your favorite summer spots can be your new favorite winter getaways. Houses that normally rent only weekly for several thousand dollars per night during the summer, can often be rented for shorter stays at a fraction of the price. And don’t worry about restaurants being closed. Nantucket has plenty of caterers and private chefs and bartenders that will come right to your home and cook 5-star meals for you and your guests, for the same price you’d pay to go out to eat. Though it may seem far, the ACK airport is only a 3 hr flight from PHL.

Bear Creek

Sure, Bear Creek isn’t Beaver Creek, but if you book one of their 3 bedroom loft suites (sleeps 12) or their Executive Suite (sleeps 5) you may just think you are. Bear Creek went through a major renovation just a few years ago and the results are breathtaking. Staying the weekend (even if you only live 30 minutes away) will give you time to enjoy the heated pool, the bar and their great dining options. The Grill, their fine dining room, has a 4 star TripAdvisor rating and serves excellent food.

Hudson Valley

Less than 3 hours from Berks County, the Hudson Valley in New York state has lots to offer for a weekend getaway. The Buttermilk Falls Inn, for example, is a cosy B&B that offers beautiful suites, a spa with weekend yoga classes and and farm to table restaurant. And if that isn’t enough to keep you busy, there’s the beautiful Buttermilk Falls, and Poughkeepsie, NY and the Culinary Institute of America are just a stone’s throw away.

Tell us your favorite local weekend getaway!
